520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. |
Summary, etc |
The Rule of St. Benedict is one of the most important documents in the cultural history of the West. Originally written for a small Italian monastery, it immediately began to be adopted by other monastic houses. Thus it became influential throughout the Western part of the Roman Empire. In the course of the next five centuries it became, to all intents and purposes, the rule for monasteries in the West. I thought it seemed like a good idea to write down some reflections on the Rule in relation to my own life and concerns. - Introduction. |
